Most popular questions for - G6 Farmnavigator

I connected the Geosat to the PC and launched Geosat Suite, Suite shows this message:

"Data on Navigator may be corrupted. Please follow these steps in order to restore the data integrity"

I follow the procedure but, as the Suite restars, always show the same message.

In this case you have to update the software manually (it means without using Geosat Suite).

As first step you have to download the "SWUpdate.zip folder" using the link below

http://cloud.avmap.us/suite/SW/C03/SWUpdate.zip

After downloading it on you PC, unzip the folder to obtain the unzipped "SWUpdate".

Then delete the zipped folder SWUpdate.zip.

Into the SWUpdate folder you will find other 2 folders:

SD

NAND

Connect Geosat 6 to the PC and do not launch the Suite.

ATTENTION: Now it is required to find, the 2 disks "removible disk" and "local disk" of your Geosat 6.

As connected Geosat 6 to the PC, these 2 disks should appear on the "My Computer" section. Each one is identified by a letter, for istance:

Removible Disk (F):

Local Disk (G):

( for Mac OSX users: on Mac system you will not find removible disk and local disk, but, as connected Geosat 6 to the computer, on the Desktop of the Mac you will find 2 new disks, named NONAME and UNNAME )

The 2 disks have also a different content; removible disk can be recognized because it is the one that contains the following folders:

CHARTS

Geosat6

Loquendo

Voice

Local disk instead will contain the following files and folders:

MP4 (folder)

Languages (folder)

Geosat6Start.exe (file)

OS.ver (file)

Serialcode.dat (file)

Now it is possible to copy the files and folders to recover all the system.

Open the removible disk and in the same time open the "SD" folder previously downloaded.

Copy the content of the SD folder into the removible disk:

IMPORTANT: you do not have to copy the SD "folder" directly, but you have to:

- open the SD folder

- select all folders you can find inside

- copy and paste all these folders into the removible disk of the navigator

(For Mac OSX users: copy the content of the "SD" folder into the disk that already contains the folders: Geosat6, FONTS, Loquendo.. etc)

If the copy and paste have been done successfully, the computer should ask you to overwrite the existing folders, then it will be sufficient to confirm the overwriting of these

folders to complete the procedure.

Then open the NAND folder and copy the content into the local disk of the navigator (the other disk we described here above).

Follow the same identical operation and suggestions provided for the removible disk.

(For Mac OSX users: copy the content of the NAND folder into the disk that already contains the folders MP4, Languages, .. etc)

The last step of the procedure is the restart of the Operative System of the unit:

RESTART OF THE OPERATIVE SYSTEM OF THE UNIT:

After the copying of the files as described above, remove safetly the unit from PC and disconnect the USB cable.

Start the unit and wait the main page loading. The main page of the Geosat is the blue page with the 2 main icons (Navigation and MultiMedia reader).

Then connect the Geosat 6 to the wall power cable.

Now use 2 pens or 2 pointed objects and follow this procedure:

- with one of the pointed object press and hold the button that is into the little hole near the SD slot card (it is on the low part of the unit,

it is the hole without lables or writtens) and DO NOT release it.

- with the other pointed object press (only one time) the button that is into the little hole with "reset" indication.

- Now the display of the unit should switch to a blue page with some percentage counters 0%-100%. If yes please RELEASE ALSO THE FIRST BUTTON and wait that the unit restarts automatically. If yes it means that also the Operative System have been correctly restarted and the unit should show again the main page (the one with the 2 main icons (Navigation and MultiMedia reader).

If you are in trouble with last procedure please download the video tutorial from this link:

http://cloud.avmap.us/download/OSG6_restart.mp4

(If after pressing the restart buttons you will receive an error message on the display of the unit, please write an email to [email protected] specifying the title

of this Faq, the error message you receive and communicate the MOD number of the unit itself. The MOD number is reported on the paper label of the unit itself and it is like

P1Mxxxxx. AvMap Technical Support operators will reply you providing the correct link to use for the downloading of the "SWUpdate.zip" folder specific for your unit).

After this last procedure click on the Navigation icon and enter into the internal Navigation system to check if everything is ok:

Click on Menu - System Info - Software: you must have:

Software: 2.29.286R

OS: 1.3.73R

If yes it means that the update of the Software and of the Operative System have been concluded correctly.

Installation with suction cup holder:

1. Fix the car mount on the windscreen with the suction cup in a position that does not represent a danger in case of accident or sharp braking, and that does not distract the driver.
2. Plug the car power supply cable in the cigarette lighter, and the other end in the holder (see picture).

ATTENTION: it is not possible to feed the navigator plugging the car power supply cable directly in the device. Do NOT plug the cable in the audio output!

3. Move the navigator’s main switch from OFF to the ON position using a pen (see picture).

.

4. Place the Geosat 6 on the magnetic car mount coupling with a simple gesture.

5. Press the power key to power on the navigator.

6. The smart magnetic rotating mount makes it possible to rotate the navigator from landscape to portrait mode to choose your point of view.

Installation with the in-car integrated holder

For the in-car integrated models please read the incar installation quick guide included in the box. The suction cup holder and the car charger are also provided with the in-car integrated models. When used with the suction cup holder, some functions will be missing:
•It won’t be possible to use the iPOD control
•It won’t be possible to interface the navigator with the car sound system.

In order to purchase a map update for your navigator without losing its Farmnavigator functions, you must download the map Update through the Geosat Suite.
This procedure  replace the old map file and the old license with the new ones you just bought, keeping the function Farmnavigator inside the card and thus keeping intact the functions of your navigator.

IMPORTANT: If you buy a new Memory card on the AvMap Shop on line peloaded with Euuropean Map you will receive a new card to be inserted inside the navigator instead of the one you already own. The new card purchased DOES NOT HAVE the Farmnavigator certificate, inserting it into the device the Farm functions will therefore not be available. Reinsert the original card to get the Farmnavigator functions.

In any AvMap navigator, both the navigation software and the map data are preloaded on the memory card. The software update, however, is separate and apart from map data update.

Periodically, AvMap releases updates for the navigation software, free of charge. The software update concerns the navigation functions, messages and vocal instructions languages, menus, graphics, etc... Software Updates can be downloaded from the Support Section or through  the Geosat Suite.

The Map update on the other hand is not free. The updated data are released several times a year by our map providers and reworked and implemented by AvMap. When you update the maps, you update data such as street names, attributes and characteristics of the roads, one-ways, roundabouts, house numbers, points of interest, etc... The updates can be purchased on the AvMap shop online or through  the Geosat Suite.

Yes it is, it can be installed outside the cabin.

Press twice the MENU key, select SETUP DATA BOXES and press the ENT key to confirm. The DATA BOXES FIELDS window is displayed. The first data box is selected and it appears in black. Press the ENT key. Now select the box you want to replace with the one selected and press the ENT key to confirm. To quit press twice the ESC key.

You must set it in System Setup, Alarms. The beeper works only when reaching the Marks with the Danger icon (the last one on the right in the Edit Mark page)

This error message means that the External GPS Antenna (“white mushroom”) is not  correctly connected  and not correctly recognized by the Geosat

- Is the Geosat correctly connected with the magnetic support?
- Is the magnetic support correctly connected with the power cable?
- Is the red light on the power cable active?
- Is the black serial cable/port ( on the magnetic support ) correctly connected to the grey serial port (it is the final part of the long white cable of the External Antenna )
- Is the white plug correctly connected to the external antenna?

The GPS signal acquiring must be done with the Vehicle STOPPED and not in movement, so wait for the GPs signal and then start the work.

- Please ensure that the navigator is correctly positioned on the bracket and attached to the windscreen. - Please ensure that there aren't obstacles between the vehicle and the sky. GPS signal is not received indoors or in boxes or tunnels. - If you are moving, please try to stop and start again after the signal is acquired: for the navigator is much harder to calculate the GPS position while moving, for that reason acquiring will be slower.

You can enrich your maps adding extra POIs such as speed cameras downloaded from the internet in .csv, .gsp, .ov2 format.

How to download the files:

Geosat is compatible with POI in OV2, CS, GSP format. These POi are distributed by several websites such as WWW.POIGPS.COM and WWW.ADIVOR.IT

You can update your map in two ways:

1. Extend your horizons and buy a new  AvMap SD card peloaded with new software and maps, directly on our Shop Online: choose your navigator and click on  'Buy new memory card' , then choose the desired area / special map. The new memory card will be delivered to you.

2. You can dowload the update for your map through the Geosat Suite, saving time and money. Once you have installed Geosat Suite, just connect your navigator to the PC with the USB cable and the Suite will warn you automatically every time an update for your device is available.

N.B. For Geosat 6 APRS, Geosat 6 Regolarità and G6 Farmnavigator, use the Geosat Suite.

The update to the latest software version available can be done through Geosat Suite, the  free Desktop application by AvMap.

Geosat Suite  helps you keeping your Geosat up-to-date and allows you customizing your contents and sharing them with your friends. Once you have installed Geosat Suite, just connect your navigator to the PC with the USB cable and the Suite will warn you automatically every time an update for your device is available.

1. Download the Geosat Suite User Manual

2. Download Geosat  Suite on your PC/ MAC and install it (this opertaion is necessary only the first time).

3. Disconnect the Geosat from the power supply.

4.  Connect the Geosat to the PC through USB.
Attention: we recommend to connect the Geosat  to a USB port on the back of the PC, and to avoid the front ports, multi-hub devices and USB extension cables.

5. Wait for the hardware to be recognized as a double disc ( local disk + removable local disk  in My Computer) and close the windows on the disks that will be opened automatically.

6. Follow n the Geosat Suite Manual the instructions to set the Geosat Suite and make your first Geosat Software Update.

7. After the software update, follow the procedure to reset the Operative System.

Connect your Geosat to the PC periodically, to keep it up-to-date!

It is possible to combine the Geosat 6 Farmnavigator to the external receiver that you prefer.

Farmnavigator G6 has an integrated GPS receiver, which could be use for normal road navigation. For precision agriculture operations you can choose different  external receivers compatible.

G6 Farmnavigator  is compatible with any GPS external receiver that comunicates in NMEA strings 0183 via DB connection (see image for Pin-out diagram). The receivers must be set  to open  the strings GGA, RMC, VTG, GSA, GSV, ZDA GPS

The AvMap navigation software only works with AvMap original memory cards. AvMap Memory cards cannot be duplicated or modified, if your memory card is damaged, please contact AvMap technical support.

Please verify that the serial number has made by 3 numbers + 1 letter + 4 / 5 numbers.

If your serial number is made by numbers only, please add a "T" letter after the first 3 numbers

E.g. you have 20201011 , you have to write on Geosat Suite window 202T01011

THE FOLLOWING PROCEDURE CAN BE USED TO TRANSFER FILEDS FROM ONE FARMNAVIGATOR TO ANOTHER

You can do copies of your fields with the help of your PC.

Step 1)
Work in a filed and close it. Go to Fields Menu , select the field and OPEN it. So return in Fields Menu, select the same field and press SHOW INFO – OPTIONS – EXPORT
Wait for the confirm message.

Export the field you want to copy:

Step 2)
So, DISCONNECT THE POWER CABLE, keep the Geosat in “on” position and connect it  with USB cable to the PC.

You will be able to access to two different Geosat disks, Removible Disk and Local Disk.
Access to the Removible disk and into the Fields folder you will be able to view KMZ files ( files created after the export operations )

Copy and paste on your PC the .kmz file related to the work you want to copy, rename it  and CREATE copies of that file:

Example: 2010-xx-yy.kmz    rename as  Perimeter1.kmz
Create copies

Perimeter1_01.kmz
Perimeter1_02 .kmz  …

Step 3) Verify if into the Fields Folder there is a sub Folder named IMPORT. If there isn’t that folder create it one.

Copy and paste all the kmz copies into the IMPORT folder and disconnect Geosat from the PC.
Turn on it, access to the FarmNavigation Menu and select IMPORT FIELDS – select one of them and click “import”

You will find the exported field into the FIELDS Menu.

Please download from this link the document that explains how to proceed with updates of software and maps manually, without Suite using (document is Italian and English language).

www.avmap.it/upload/G6_manual_updates.pdf
It is possible that the problem depends on how the guidelines were recorded, particularly if so it deals with parallel lines and towed vehicles. The start of line recording (i.e. the moment you press to start recording) it must NOT be done with the vehicle stopped; this is because the saved point may not exactly match with the point where the truck is, and consequently the parallel line will be "oblique" with respect to the real drawn line.

To significantly reduce the error it is necessary to start the vehicle and keep it at a speed of about 7km/h and make sure that the medium itself is well aligned. Once this is verified, while driving press to start recording from the point A. Then press again when the key button is active again to complete the line registration.

- open the SD folder

folders to complete the procedure.

This may be due to the fact that there is a new version of the Geosat Suite available, please check the upper bar on the Suite Home page, and make sure you have downloaded and installed the latest Suite version.
A important update is the one introduced with Suite Version 1.5.46R (Windows) / 1.0.41R (MacOS) released the 06/10/2013.

At the end of the procedure the maps will be correctly displayed  in the right column (purchases) of the Suite’s  Map management page, and they could be loaded on the navigator.

The map statuses can be 3:

-   Green: the map is u -to-date ( it is the latest released)
-   Red: the map is not up-to-date ( a new release is available)
-   Yellow: it is not possible to determine the validity of your map because the navigator has never been used. Please use the navigator first , getting a GPS fix position at a certain speed and then re-connect the Geoat to the PC.

Beside the status, you may see a green rosette meaning you have are guarantee for free the latest released map. In facts, when you buy a new AvMap navigator, you get the New Map Guarantee: that means you are guarantee for free the latest released map.

If a newer map is released by AvMap within 30 days from your first  use, the New map Guarantee allows you to download it for free using the Suite PC application.
You have 30 days from the first usage of your new AvMap navigator  (from the first acquisition of satellites at a certain speed)  to download  the Suite  and check if a new map is available for you for free! You can download only one free map for your navigator.
If the navigator has never been used it is impossible to determine the validity of the map, thus the yellow status map appears.

The Geosat 6 can be set in "power saving mode".
1. From the main menu touch Settings
2. Touch Device Preferences
3. Touch Power Save. Here you can set 4 different levels of Power Save:

- OFF
- MEDIUM
- MINIMUM
- MAXIMUM

Choosing OFF, the battery life will be shorter, while choosing maximum power save will extend the battery life thanks to several tricks to save power.
Here is how the device acts in different situations according to the power save mode:

Case 1: THE POWER CABLE IS CONNECTED

- Status: OFF -  the device always stays on

- Staus: MINIMUM - the device shuts down after 2 hours of inactivity

- Status: MEDIUM or MAXIMUM -  if the device is left idle for 30 minutes, the display brightness is lowered, and then the device turns off after 2 hours of inactivity.

CASE 2: THE POWER CABLE IS DISCONNECTED (battery mode)

- Status: MEDIUM - if the device is left idle for more than 30 minutes (and brightness is set to over 30%), the display brightness will be automatically lowered to the 30% together with the backlit AvMap logo on the device frame.

- Status: MAXIMUM - after 30 minutes of inactivity, the device will turn off and the brightness of the LED AvMap will be lowered to 30% of luminosity
.

Just touch any data box to open the list of available data, select the type of info you would like to be displayed and confirm. Repeat this operation for each data box to customize your navigation experience.

To search for a point by its geographical coordinates, you may need to change the their format.

1.  First check the type of coordinate format that you want, and then
2. Click on Menu -> Settings -> Device Preferences -> Lat / Lon Format
3. The options are:

DDD.MM.SS (Degrees first few seconds e.g. 45 ° 24 '35'' N)

DDD.MM.FFF (Degrees first, third decimal of the first example. 45 ° 24.421 ')

DDD.MM.FF (Degrees first, the first two decimal e.g. 45 ° 24.42 ')

Ddd.ddddd (degrees, decimal degrees e.g. 45.896782 °) Note: This format is widely used

a. The navigator may not be powered properly. Make sure the navigator is properly connected
b. The navigator could be on stand-by because it was set to the average or maximum energy saving. Check the power management settings:

1. From the Main Menu, press Settings
2. Press User Preferences
3. Press Power. The window shows three levels of saving  energy. Off, average and maximum.

Selecting OFF for the assurance that the browser never goes into standby mode.

By selecting the Medium level, you get a greater autonomy battery.

Selecting the maximum level, you will get the maximum autonomy of the battery with a series of features. For example when the navigator is disconnected the brightness is lowered automatically, after several minutes the screen goes in   standby etc.

Select OFF and press Accept. If the problem is not solved, contact technical support AvMap.

Probably the calibration has not been performed correctly. For a correct calibration  you need to choose a time when you are sure you have not ingested alcohol and it should not be repeated before the test.

The calibration is personal, so it may be less accurate if the person who performs the test is not the same person who calibrated the device.
