Geosat 6 APRS

The GPS solution for  APRS© operations

New highly performing hardware

Geosat 6 APRS comes with a slim and stylish design featuring a metal chassis, a 4.8” full colour display in 16:9 widescreen format  and a smart magnetic mount that makes it is very easy to place the navigator in the car.

Geosat 6 APRS has a renewed interface and a more sensitive GPS receiver: a ublox lea5s GPS for fast and highly accurate fix. New navigation functions have been added such as the Trip Computer that shows overview of the journey, with speed graphs, info about average speed, highest speed reached, stop time etc.Turn-by-turn vocal instructions announce complete street names thanks to the Text-to-Speech technology.

Full bi-directional RS-232 APRS© communication

The Geosat 6 APRS comes with a Kenwood-ready cable and exclusive APRS© bi-directional RS-232 APRS© interface compatible with ALL current APRS© ready Kenwood Radios, including the new TH-D72E. Geosat 6 APRS provides GPS location information for your transmitted APRS© beacons, and it shows received APRS© information on its map display. The unit can store up to 1000 APRS© contacts and display them on the map.

Intercept To Target

You can set your Geosat 6 APRS to navigate to your favourite APRS© mobile station and get rerouting instructions when the new position is reported!

APRS© icons

Watch APRS© activity right on the screen and you can distinguish between fixed and mobile APRS© stations. Static positions are represented by blue bulls-eye icons  along with the associated call sign. Moving positions are represented by red triangles and associated call sign. If used with a Kenwood D710A/E and if set in the KENWOOD format sentence, the Geosat 6 APRS supports standardized APRS© icons.

Tactical Mode

Geosat 6 APRS fully takes advantage of the Kenwood format sentence. The Tactical mode allows you to select an APRS contact to see its speed, course and altitude in addition to its call sign and position.

APRS contacts management

Thanks to the new APRS© contacts smart management, Geosat 6 APRS can auto-delete the received APRS© contacts’ positions after a set timeout. You can also sort your APRS© contacts by alphabetical order or receiving time.

The ultimate representation for moving objects

Geosat 6 offers the best representation of moving object with Course/Speed leaders and Dead-Reckoning function. The new Dead Reckoning feature allows predicting the position of moving APRS objects on the map of the GPS navigator even if a new position has not been reported yet. It is fundamental that a moving object continues to move on the map until updated, especially for a sparse data channel like APRS where it might be several minutes before a new position comes in.

Each APRS object is displayed on the map with an icon in its last reported position. When the DR feature is enabled, a vector line 'Course/Speed Leader' is drawn from that position to the projected current position based on last reported course direction and speed. The Course/Speed Leader vector line is updated every 4 seconds.
These functions were developed with the help of the father of APRS Mr. Bob Bruninga (WB4APR).

Geosat 6 APRS compatible with Byonics Tiny Trak 4

The Tiny Track 4 is an APRS GPS position encoder which, when connected to a serial GPS and a radio, will transmit its location and the APRS data at an adjustable sending  $GPRMC or $GPGGA strings. Thanks to Tiny Track 4, Geosat 6 APRS becomes compatibile with any analogic transceiver. Tiny Track is a product by Byonics  www.byonics.com/tinytrak4/

APRS Messaging

When used with Byonics TinyTrack, Geosat 6 APRS allows APRS Messaging. Send text messages with ease thanks to the full virtual keyboard.

Real Time Weather

Just connect Geosat 6 APRS to any analog radio transceiver through Byonics TinyTrak4 and the sat nav map will show not only the position of WX stations, but as well all the relevant current weather info.

Click on a WX station to open the full info page including:

•    Wind speed
•    Wind direction
•    Temperature
•    Rain in the last 24 h
•    Pressure
•    Humidity
•    Wind gust

This function comes very handy in emergency situations when internet and phone network is missing, in fact in the United States radio Hams can count on a very wide and developed network of APRS amateurs’ weather stations.

A Geosat 6 APRS connected with TinyTrak4 and an analog radio transceiver will be enough to monitor pressure, winds, and the directions of storms, becoming a very useful tool for civil defense.
