The cartography for AvMap aeronautical products includes information from several sources and data providers: NAVTEQ, Jeppesen, Seattle Avionics. For more info visit the Aeronautical Maps page

At this link a guide for Jeppesen database AND software installing > LINK

It is possible to update each set of data separately: the Aero Database (including Jeppesen data and the Avioportolano) or the Street Maps can be downloaded directly from the Shop online.

I connected the Geosat to the PC and launched Geosat Suite, Suite shows this message:

"Data on Navigator may be corrupted. Please follow these steps in order to restore the data integrity"

I follow the procedure but, as the Suite restars, always show the same message.

In this case you have to update the software manually (it means without using Geosat Suite).

As first step you have to download the "SWUpdate.zip folder" using the link below

http://cloud.avmap.us/suite/SW/C03/SWUpdate.zip

After downloading it on you PC, unzip the folder to obtain the unzipped "SWUpdate".

Then delete the zipped folder SWUpdate.zip.

Into the SWUpdate folder you will find other 2 folders:

SD

NAND

Connect Geosat 6 to the PC and do not launch the Suite.

ATTENTION: Now it is required to find, the 2 disks "removible disk" and "local disk" of your Geosat 6.

As connected Geosat 6 to the PC, these 2 disks should appear on the "My Computer" section. Each one is identified by a letter, for istance:

Removible Disk (F):

Local Disk (G):

( for Mac OSX users: on Mac system you will not find removible disk and local disk, but, as connected Geosat 6 to the computer, on the Desktop of the Mac you will find 2 new disks, named NONAME and UNNAME )

The 2 disks have also a different content; removible disk can be recognized because it is the one that contains the following folders:

CHARTS

Geosat6

Loquendo

Voice

Local disk instead will contain the following files and folders:

MP4 (folder)

Languages (folder)

Geosat6Start.exe (file)

OS.ver (file)

Serialcode.dat (file)

Now it is possible to copy the files and folders to recover all the system.

Open the removible disk and in the same time open the "SD" folder previously downloaded.

Copy the content of the SD folder into the removible disk:

IMPORTANT: you do not have to copy the SD "folder" directly, but you have to:

- open the SD folder

- select all folders you can find inside

- copy and paste all these folders into the removible disk of the navigator

(For Mac OSX users: copy the content of the "SD" folder into the disk that already contains the folders: Geosat6, FONTS, Loquendo.. etc)

If the copy and paste have been done successfully, the computer should ask you to overwrite the existing folders, then it will be sufficient to confirm the overwriting of these

folders to complete the procedure.

Then open the NAND folder and copy the content into the local disk of the navigator (the other disk we described here above).

Follow the same identical operation and suggestions provided for the removible disk.

(For Mac OSX users: copy the content of the NAND folder into the disk that already contains the folders MP4, Languages, .. etc)

The last step of the procedure is the restart of the Operative System of the unit:

RESTART OF THE OPERATIVE SYSTEM OF THE UNIT:

After the copying of the files as described above, remove safetly the unit from PC and disconnect the USB cable.

Start the unit and wait the main page loading. The main page of the Geosat is the blue page with the 2 main icons (Navigation and MultiMedia reader).

Then connect the Geosat 6 to the wall power cable.

Now use 2 pens or 2 pointed objects and follow this procedure:

- with one of the pointed object press and hold the button that is into the little hole near the SD slot card (it is on the low part of the unit,

it is the hole without lables or writtens) and DO NOT release it.

- with the other pointed object press (only one time) the button that is into the little hole with "reset" indication.

- Now the display of the unit should switch to a blue page with some percentage counters 0%-100%. If yes please RELEASE ALSO THE FIRST BUTTON and wait that the unit restarts automatically. If yes it means that also the Operative System have been correctly restarted and the unit should show again the main page (the one with the 2 main icons (Navigation and MultiMedia reader).

If you are in trouble with last procedure please download the video tutorial from this link:

http://cloud.avmap.us/download/OSG6_restart.mp4

(If after pressing the restart buttons you will receive an error message on the display of the unit, please write an email to [email protected] specifying the title

of this Faq, the error message you receive and communicate the MOD number of the unit itself. The MOD number is reported on the paper label of the unit itself and it is like

P1Mxxxxx. AvMap Technical Support operators will reply you providing the correct link to use for the downloading of the "SWUpdate.zip" folder specific for your unit).

After this last procedure click on the Navigation icon and enter into the internal Navigation system to check if everything is ok:

Click on Menu - System Info - Software: you must have:

Software: 2.29.286R

OS: 1.3.73R

If yes it means that the update of the Software and of the Operative System have been concluded correctly.

It is possible to interface your Geosat 4x4 / 4x4Wild to applications such as Ozi Explorer the transfer of data (tracks and waypoints) to Ozi from Geosat and viceversa. Besides, if GPS signal is good, it’s possible to navigate using Ozi, that has the maps loaded inside and Geosat 5 as GPS receiver.
To connect the Geosat to the PC and interface it with Ozi, you must use the Navigator Interface Cable-PC and if it is necessary also the USB-Serial adapter. Both accessories are available in our shop.

Exporting and Importing to and from Ozi Explorer
1). IMPORTANT: In order for the data to be correctly transferred from Geosat to Ozi it is necessary to save first the waypoints that the tracks into File Manager page of your navigator (Menu - Page 3 - File Manager).
2) Disable the function 4x4
3) Select the NMEA 4800 (located at: main menu - settings - user preferences - Page 2: Interface - NMEA 4800)

How to connect Geosat 5 to OZI Explorer
1. if PC has a serial port, connect directly Geosat 5 to PC, using the serial cable;
2. if PC hasn’t a serial port, you can use the serial cable together with the Serial-USB adapter, but before using it you must download and install the adapter drivers into your PC (you can buy the adapter on our web site and you can download the drivers from the Geosat 4x4 web FAQ page). The serial cable must be plugged in the port marked as “TMC”, in the back side of Geosat. In order to use Ozi Explorer with Geosat 5, you must choose the right configuration.
To set the configuration:
1) from FILE menu, choose Configuration
2) in the opened page, choose GPS menu: in the GPS Maker tag choose NMEA Only from the option list
3) From Configuration choose now COM menu: in this page set the COM port number which the navigator is linked to (in the picture the red arrow indicates the tag). This operation is very important because if you set the wrong port the link will be not possible. You must set also the baud rate: choose 4800 in the tag indicated by the green arrow in the picture.
Now it’s possible to transfer waypoints.
In order to transfer the waypoints from Geosat to PC, it needs to select “Get waypoints from GPS using NMEA sentences” from the GPS NMEA ONLY menu.
In the Geosat, that must be turned on during the connection, in Contacts menu open the folder containing the waypoints that you want to transfer: in the opened folder click on SEND button. During the transfer, a pop up window that show the transfer of the waypoints on the OZI map in progress appears. Close this window clicking on Close button, after the message that informs user that transfer is correctly done appears on Geosat display.
Now it’s possible to see all the transferred waypoints marked with their name on the map. Note: if you want to store the transferred waypoints on Ozi, it’s necessary to save them before closing the program.

Importing and exporting data using the GeosatUpdate

Using the GeosatUpdate desktop application, you can manage tracks, points of interest, welcome images, voices and other contents of your GPS and synchronize them  very easily on the device. Through GSUpdate you can manage (export and import) traces in .plt  format (this format is used by OziExplorer for example)
1. Start the application Geosat Update and click on Geosat Tracks.
2. In the left window will appear  the recorded tracks on Geosat 4x4; select a track and then click the Export icon on Ozi Explorer to save on your PC the track in a  format compatible with Ozi Explorer.
3. To import a track, on the same screen click on the icon Import from Ozi Explorer and choose from the PC the file of the track you want to import.
3. The application Geosat Update will convert the file in a  format compatible with Geosat 4x4 and save in the memory card.

Exporting and Importing to and from Google Earth
It is possible to use Google Earth to create tracks and contacts, save the files in. kml format and convert them in GPX format using any free tool available on the Web (AvMap recommends ‘GPS Babel’) .
Vice versa, it is possible to export your contacts in GPX format through GSUpdate and visualize it directly to Google Earth.
IMPORTANT: Before you export your contacts and tracks using GSUpdate you need to SAVE all your data in File Manager.
After importing the data it is necessary to reload the file transferred on File Manager.

The color, sunlight-viewable LCD TFT backlight screen is 7 inches diagonal, with an 800 x 480 resolution and a brightness of 400 nits.

The display  is equipped with a sensor for the automatic adjustment of brightness.

We recommend you to avoid prolonged exposure to direct sunlight: if the device is not used, the screen should not be exposed directly to sunlight, exposure to ultraviolet rays of the display can shorten the life of the liquid crystals used in the cartographic plotter.

It refers to the internal temperature of the navigator, not to the atmospheric one.

In order to purchase a map update for your navigator without losing its Farmnavigator functions, you must download the map Update through the Geosat Suite.
This procedure  replace the old map file and the old license with the new ones you just bought, keeping the function Farmnavigator inside the card and thus keeping intact the functions of your navigator.

IMPORTANT: If you buy a new Memory card on the AvMap Shop on line peloaded with Euuropean Map you will receive a new card to be inserted inside the navigator instead of the one you already own. The new card purchased DOES NOT HAVE the Farmnavigator certificate, inserting it into the device the Farm functions will therefore not be available. Reinsert the original card to get the Farmnavigator functions.

In any AvMap navigator, both the navigation software and the map data are preloaded on the memory card. The software update, however, is separate and apart from map data update.

Periodically, AvMap releases updates for the navigation software, free of charge. The software update concerns the navigation functions, messages and vocal instructions languages, menus, graphics, etc... Software Updates can be downloaded from the Support Section or through  the Geosat Suite.

The Map update on the other hand is not free. The updated data are released several times a year by our map providers and reworked and implemented by AvMap. When you update the maps, you update data such as street names, attributes and characteristics of the roads, one-ways, roundabouts, house numbers, points of interest, etc... The updates can be purchased on the AvMap shop online or through  the Geosat Suite.

It is always recommended that you secure your data in the internal navigator’s memory in case of Software Update, Ram Clear (memory reset) or  SD card change, otherwise the data will be lost.

Saving data  in File Manager will secure them and it will be  possible to recover them by “reloading” them.

1. Go to page 3 of 4 from the main menu and select File Management

2. Select Save to Contacts (this will save all the marks) and Save Track. Each  file track saves one single track. While saving a MARK File saves all the previously stored Marks.

Kenwood TH-D72A/E SetUp

• Turn the TH-D72A/E ON.
• Press the F button.
• Use the up/down/OK/Esc control to select and set the following functions:
- F-1 – Int. GPS – Off
- F-7 – Voice Alert – Off
• Press Esc to exit the function menu.
• Use the A/B button to select the desired radio side for APRS.
• Press the VFO button and adjust the frequency to your standard APRS frequency (144.39MHz in the US).
• If necessary, press F-Shift to remove + and – from the display.
• If necessary, press Tone to remove the T, CT, DCS, and D/O icons from the display. The icon position should be blank.
• Press Menu button and set or verify the menu settings below. Leave all other settings at default, for now. Note: only important default settings are included
here.
• Press the Menu button again to close the Menu.

The Kenwood TH-D72A/E is now ready to interface with the Geosat 6 APRS. Now that the configuration is complete, it’s time to see if it will work.
1. Turn off the Geosat 6 APRS and the TH-D72A/E.

2. Connect the two units using the data cable provided with your AvMap Geosat 6 APRS. Plug the fourconductor plug, with three black insulating rings into the I/O port on the Geosat 6 APRS. This is the top jack on the right side of the Geosat 6 APRS. Make sure the plug is firmly seated in the jack. Open the
COM cover on the TH-D72A/E and plug the three-conductor plug (two black insulating rings) into the COM port. Again, make sure it is firmly seated. A common problem with operation failure is not having the plugs firmly inserted in the units, or having the connections reversed. Double check your connections.

Troubleshooting
If you do not see a flashing “GPS” signal on the upper right hand corner of the TH-D72A/E, or APRS stations are not appearing in the APRS Contacts list on  the Geosat 6 APRS, then the data cable may not be fully or correctly seated.

1. Remove one plug and assure that it is the correct plug for that unit and is plugged into the correct port, according to the description in the previous section
of these instructions. Return the plug to the proper port and firmly push it in.
2. Check that the cord at the other end is in the correct port and firmly press on the plug to assure it is properly seated.
3.Check the cord for continuity and no shorts, using an ohmmeter, especially if it is a home brewed data cable.
4. Verify that the Geosat 6 APRS is computing a position fix.
5. Listen to your APRS frequency on the TH-D72A/E or on a different radio to verify there is APRS activity in your area.
6. Reread and verify the setup sections of these instructions.
7. Perform a Partial Reset of your TH-D72A/E per the instructions on page RESET-1 of the CD manual, then, repeat the setup instructions. A partial reset will not erase your memory channels, but will set all other settings to their default values.

- Is the magnetic support correctly connected with the power cable?
- Is the red light on the power cable active?
- Is the black serial cable/port ( on the magnetic support ) correctly connected to the grey serial port (it is the final part of the long white cable of the External Antenna )

The GPS signal acquiring must be done with the Vehicle STOPPED and not in movement, so wait for the GPs signal and then start the work.

The duration of the battery at full bright is about 30 minutes. The duration can be extended by decreasing the brightness of the LCD up to 80-90 minutes

- Please ensure that the navigator is correctly positioned on the bracket and attached to the windscreen. - Please ensure that there aren't obstacles between the vehicle and the sky. GPS signal is not received indoors or in boxes or tunnels. - If you are moving, please try to stop and start again after the signal is acquired: for the navigator is much harder to calculate the GPS position while moving, for that reason acquiring will be slower.
