How to choose the right tranducer for your activity

5 things you should look at

Sonar type

1.

CW or CHIRP

Which is your sonar type?

Transducers are available for traditional CW (continuous wave) sonar as well as new generation CHIRP sonar, offering 5 times greater detail and resolution.

Frequency

2.

Frequency

What is your activity?

Choose low (>80 kHz), medium (80 - 160kHz), or high frequency (150 - 250 kHz)  according to your type of activity. The higher the frequency the best detail for shallow water., the lower the frequency, the better depth performance in deep water

Power

3.

Power

Where do you navigate?

Choose the energy you can put into the water column, from 300W to 1KW, for different depth ranges.

Mounting

4.

Mounting

Boat Performance or Sonar Performance?

Choose Thru Hull or  Thru-Hull with fairing depending on how important boat performance or sonar performance is to you. Thru Hull mounting gives the best boat performance reducing friction to the minimun, while Thru-Hull with fairing offers the most accurate sonar performance

Material

5.

Tranducer's material

The right match for your hull

Bronze or stainless steel transducers?  It is not possible to say which is the best material ever. This depends on the hull material. Stainless steel transducers are recommended for metal hulls, and bronze transducers for wooden hulls; either type may be installed in a fiberglass hull.

Thru Hull

Thru Hull

High speed and minimum drag

A thru-hull transducer offers excellent performance even at high speeds, with minimum drag. To install a thru-hull transducer, a hole must be drilled in the hull (fiberglass, metal, or wooden hull). The boat must therefore be on land for installation.

Thru hull with fairings

Thru Hull with fairings

Accurate sonar performance

These transducers are mounted on a stem that passes through a hole drilled in any fiberglass, metal, or wooden hull. An insulating fairing block is required for installation on a metal hull. The insulating fairing block positions the device parallel to the waterline for greater depth sounder accuracy. Thru-hull transducers with a fairing block tend to offer the most reliable and accurate sonar performance.

Mix & Match Adapter Cables

Easy integration with popular sonar systems

Echonautics transducers integrate with popular sonar systems (sonar, fish finder, echosounder) from leading manufacturers.
These mix-and-match adapter cables make it simple to integrate high-performance Echonautics transducers with popular sonar systems from leading manufacturers.
Echonautics transducers come with 8-meter/26-foot cables and standard 8-PIN Male connectors.

  • The standard connector connects to Koden sounders without the need of an adapter cable.

  • Mix and Match adapter cables are available to integrate with Garmin, Simrad, Lowrance, B&G, SI-TEX, other brand sounders.
